Bali Starling

Indonesian endemic species, Bali Starling is found only in the woods west of the island of Bali. This bird is also the only endemic species of Bali, which in 1991 was named the provincial fauna symbol of Bali. The existence of endemic animals are protected by law.

Bali Starling (Leucopsar rothschildi) is a medium-sized, with approximately 25cm long, from the tribe Sturnidae. Bali Starling has special characteristics, among them a white feather in the whole body except the tip of the tail and black wings. Bali Starling has cheeks that are not covered in fur, bright blue and legs grayish. Birds of male and female alike.

Due to the beautiful appearance and elegant, Bali starling is one of the most sought after birds by the collector and keeper of birds. Catching wild, loss of forest habitat, and areas where these birds is very limited in Bali Starling causing rapid population shrinking and in danger of extinction within a short time. To prevent this to happen, most zoos around the world run Bali Starling breeding program.
