Alas tribes

Alas tribe is one of the tribes who settled in Southeast Aceh District, Aceh Province (which is also commonly known as Tanah Alas). The word "alas" Alas language means "mat". This is something to do with the state of the area that stretched flat like a mat on the sidelines of the Bukit Barisan. Alas Land area through much of the river, one of whom is Lawe Alas (Alas River).

Alas language similar to language Batak (Karo, Tapanuli, and Pakpak). Most of the tribes living in rural Alas and living from agriculture and animal husbandry. The base is ground rice granary for the region of Aceh. But other than that they are also gardening rubber, coffee, and pecan, and to find a variety of forest products, such as wood, rattan, resins and incense. While they raised animals are horses, goats, buffalo, and cows.

Alas village people called Kute. A Kute usually inhabited by one or several clans, called marga3. Members of merge comes from a common ancestor. Patterns of family life they are together and united. They draw lines of patrilineal descent, meaning lineage male. They also embrace traditional exogamy merge, meaning soul mate should be sought in other marga.
